I absolutely love this desk. The shelves on it are great, but I wish there would have been instructions on how to put the shelves on the other side of the desk. It definitely can be done, but the instructions only show you how to install them on the right side.If you're the only person putting this desk together, I suggest finding a friend to help. Took me around two and a half hours to put it together and the instructions aren't super clear on which way parts should be facing.This desk was assembled within 20 minutes. Great product.Good value. Great fit.I usually don't buy items of this sort online. I like to get a real sense of what it is by examining it in person. Unfortunately, the pandemic made that impossible. So, I ordered it based on reviews and ratings. I have to say I was sorely disappointed. To begin with, the item materials are poor. The compressed boards easily chip, the metalic rods have light welds and feel weak, and overall the desk feels a bit flimsy. And yes, before anyone says it, at this price point I'm not expecting some heavy duty desk made of solid oak. I have, however, purchased similar desks made of similar material before, and this one was nowhere near as durable. For example, the desk I was replacing was made of compressed wood too. I had that desk for 15 years. It was worn out for sure, but none of the boards ever chipped and it took quite a beating over the years in a household with 3 children. I also have a table I bought at Ikea for like $60 (less than this item) and it too has lasted 5 years with minor wear to the corners. One of the corners on this desk chipped while it was being moved, it was bumped up against the wall. By "chipped" I mean a large chunk of the corner crumbled away. On assembly, the legs on the non-shelved side (a square rod piece) had a center hole slightly off center. This cause it to only be possible to screw onto the table in only one position. I had wanted to turn it so that I could set up the selves on the right, but because this piece could only be put one way, I was forced to have the shelves on the left. The problem is that there are x-braces you screw on to make it sturdier. Those have specific points you screw them into. So, it's not simply a matter of flipping it around; you have to build it so that the braces are in the rear. Then, one of the screw holes popped off from the compressed wood table. I repaired it with wood glue, but I shouldn't have to. I would say you get what you paid for, but to be honest, my Ikea table was far cheaper than this. It is made of similar materials and is even then same exact color, but it is far sturdier.Let me start off by saying this desk is well built. Assembly is very easy. There are only 2 things negative I have say about this. 1 The grinding is bad. You can tell the welder doesn’t know how to grind off we’re he/she welded the metal bars. They are visible once the steel tubes went through the paint process. 2 this isn’t a negative on the vendor. To the customer buying , please make sure the vendor ships via ups ups, fed ex, or Amazon directly. If shipped by usps be ware. There may be delays and you may have to pick up at a postal office (this defeats the profuse of delivery. This happened to me and I don’t want it happening to you. I’m assuming the mailman or woman wasn’t strong enough to carry the big box to the mail truck and to the shipping address. If you call usps yo get updates on the delivery you’re probably going to wait 1hr to speak to a live agent.This is a reasonably well designed product. Here are a few tips for assembly. 1. Make sure you align the holes in the shelf assembly on the same side, 2. A second person or a saw horse is necessary to hold things in place., 3. A pair of pliers is needed tighten the nuts, 4. Don't make the cross brace screws tight until all of them are in place otherwise the last hole and brace socket will be out of alignment. 5. Check all the nuts and screws when done to be sure they are tight.Suggestions to product design: 1. Make the machine screws a 1/4 inch longer and use wing nuts instead of capped lug nuts for connections,. It will be easier to assemble the product. Shelves are small non-standard size, 7 3/4 inches wide approx width. A 9 inch shelf is needed to hold software reference books. Adding 1 1/4 inches to width of shelves will make them a lot more useful. 3. Improve the styrofoam padding so that the particle board main table doesn't get damaged in transit. Mind had a bashed in corner on arrival and the cardon looked like it had a hard journey.This is a solid desk for the price. We bought this to replace a particle board desk in our 10-year-old's room. It's surprisingly compact for how much surface area and storage space it has. I kind of wish I had bought one of these for my home office! I docked a star because the instructions weren't great. The pictures were tiny and didn't show which direction the holes should face on some of the metal bars. I've put together a lot of cheap furniture, so it wasn't the worst I've seen, but I still ended up having to swap or reverse pieces. That said, all of the pieces were there and in good condition.I've been waiting for this desk for awhile. I finally got it on Amazon days...it came early, but packaging was damaged. I also believe this was a returned item. All the hardware was in one package, but the original packaging that separates them was still in the box. It is also missing hardware and part of it was already put together. Otherwise, it's a nice desk.
